Dry Needling
What is Dry Needling?
During dry needling filiform needles are gently inserted into your skin. The filiform needles don’t inject fluid into the body. That’s why the term “dry” is used. Needles are typically inserted into “trigger points” in your muscle or tissue.
The Science of Dry Needling
Dry needling is a treatment designed to ease muscular pain. Needles are inserted into trigger points. These points are areas of knotted or hard muscle. This helps release the knot and relieves any muscle pain or spasms.
Neurological effects
Dry needling stimulates neurological sensors (ie. Substance P, Bradykinin, Calcitonin) in the body which modulate pain signals. Dry needling also results in a local twitch response which is an involuntary muscle contraction that lowers sensitivity to pain.
Additional Effects
Dry needling can cause local biochemical changes that result in increased blood flow leading to quicker healing.
Effective for the following conditions:
Neck pain
Repetitive Stress Injuries
Frozen Shoulder
Extremity pain
Back pain
